Red Herring announced its Top 100 award in recognition of the leading private companies from Asia, celebrating these startups’ innovations and technologies across their respective industries.
Red Herring’s Top 100 Asia list has become a mark of distinction for identifying promising new companies and entrepreneurs. Red Herring editors were among the first to recognize that companies such as Google, Facebook, Kakao, Twitter, Rakuten, Salesforce.com, Xiaomi and YouTube would change the way we live and work.
“Choosing the companies with the strongest potential was by no means a small feat,” said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. “After rigorous contemplation and discussion, we narrowed our list down from hundreds of candidates from across Asia to the Top 100 Winners. We believe Codewave Technologies embodies the vision, drive and innovation that define a successful entrepreneurial venture. Codewave should be proud of its accomplishment, as the competition was as strong as ever.”
Red Herring’s editorial staff evaluated the companies on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, technology innovation, management quality, strategy, and market penetration. This assessment of potential is complemented by a review of the track record and standing of startups relative to their peers, allowing Red Herring to see past the “buzz” and make the list a valuable instrument of discovery and advocacy for the most promising new business models in Asia.
Red Herring is a global media company, which unites the world’s best high technology innovators, venture investors and business decision makers in a variety of forums, including print, online and exclusive events worldwide. Red Herring provides an insider’s view and access to the global innovation economy, identifying new and innovative technology companies and entrepreneurs.
We had Ratna Mary, fondly called the “tea aunty” join us today for a candid talk on her thriving 21 year business, the journey, life experiences and insights. Starting from 5 cups of tea to serving 500 cups a day, she is loved by everyone in the neighbourhood for her spirit to serve and attention to detail.
She exudes love for life, even on days she is not feeling well, asks everyone she meets ‘how are you doing’ and feels great knowing to speak 5 different languages. Few highlights from her inspiring talk and Q&A.
What drives you to do this?
RM: People. In all these years, I’ve never lost a customer or had anyone say my tea or coffee had less milk. They loved having me in their lives everyday as much as I did. There were always some people who would not pay, but money would always come in from somewhere else, to keep me going. I’d always buy tea, coffee and sugar in bulk, I could never think of waking up and not making tea for so many people.
What according to you is the most important thing in running a business?
RM: Trust people. Be soft, however the other person is. Don’t get angry or hurt someone for money. Say it’s alright and let it go. You will get money from somewhere else. Just keep doing your thing, from all your heart.
What do you consider your biggest achievement?
RM: I never had any support in my life, had to raise two children, pay for my son’s education and get my daughter married. I would carry flasks on my own to sell tea. My husband did not contribute a single penny for my daughter’s wedding. I managed to meet my family needs, yet doing the best I could in business.
Is money important?
RM: Yes it is. But never more than people. I managed to save 30,000 rupees every month, fund my son’s education and got my daughter married. I never counted money, but I always had enough to meet my needs. My daughter wonders, I never went to school in life, but am earning double the money than her, being self employed and serving people affectionately for more than 20 years. I believe in helping people rich or poor in whatever ways I can.
Did you think of having your own shop after few years?
RM: Yes, I have bought a small space near electronic city. I plan to have a shop for tea, coffee and fast food. It is difficult to stop taking tea to everyone suddenly, it will be a gradual, slow transition.

Another spectacular evening at office yesterday with some fascinating talks! We had everyone share about a ’cause’ they felt deeply for, with a personal story and how they hoped to bring change. Quoting their own life experiences, people shared thoughts on problems we have today that are globally relevant, bringing focus to things we can do in our capacity with a slightly different perspective; like taking care of the elderly, minimizing food wastage, making technology ‘accessible’ for people with poor eye sight, supporting the government for making basic health diagnostics free for all and many more. Every one of them, candid and natural, uniquely influential in their own ways and shining in their light.
We decided to call it the Codewave Leadership Cafe’.
Vinay won our hearts with a soul stirring talk about the lack of care & affection we give people and lives that are connected to us in some way, starting from our own families.
“Money doesn’t matter, it’s all in showing a little care & affection”, moved us all deeply in ways we hadn’t imagined; making it a truly special moment for all us.
Yet another milestone for Codewave, being recognized as one of the most promising IT services companies in India, for providing keen design and development services, focusing on mobile and web technologies.

Being a services company constantly pushes us to be more organized, engage usefully, assist proactively and build relationships of trust.
Every app we build, evolves through various stages of care; from wireframing to launch. Over a period of time, we’ve adopted certain everyday practices, close fit to our environment & culture that enable us to work inclusively and take the customer with us on an engaging journey.
Couple of days ago, on mobile Google search we saw a new tag, attached to the search results worded “mobile-friendly” for websites that can be conveniently viewed and used on the mobile device. Websites that are not mobile friendly did not have this tag and sometimes even showed up above the ones that had (of-course protecting the relevance of the result), yet this certainly is a strong push for businesses to be mobile ready.
Great step to simplify the search experience for people, finding answers and taking actions on small, mobile screens. Big push to businesses to be mobile ready!

“Realize that everything connects to everything else.” – Leonardo da Vinci
There’s quite something about how our team formed and grew. Neither by plan, nor by accident; it just happened organically with people and connections! What’s incredible is the power of connection and how we’re all connected.
This fundamental thing, of being human, feeling connected and working as one team for something larger than ourselves, pushes us to be our best and go the extra mile.
We just launched a landing page for RocketTrades.com, to help them with online conversions on their paid SEM campaign (search engine marketing campaign) and saw a storming increase in conversions from 0.5% to 23% with our new design, starting the first day of the campaign.
Here is how the page looked before and after.
“Initially, I had apprehensions about Codewave’s working & approach towards Landing Page Design for Adword’s campaigning. But after I saw instant improvements in Lead’s conversions I was proven wrong. First Time I felt happy to be proven wrong!” – Nilesh, Founder, RocketTrades.com
We’re extremely glad that our effort and attention to detail paid off, resulting in more business for RocketTrades.com, with the entire project delivered in less than a week.
We also gave a simple CMS (content management system) to the person at Rocket running the ad campaign, so he could easily change the headline and other content on the page to match the ad line, to ensure high relevance for the user seeing the ad, clicking on it and subsequently landing on the page.
Considering every click to the page came at a huge cost (specially for hot keywords related to stock market trading), we were extra careful with the visuals, navigation, actions and page speed that contributed to overall user experience on the page.
